Gregg Olsen Life and Career

Born on March 5, 1959, Gregg Olsen is a Seattle native who lives in Washington State. 

Olsen is a famous American novelist, and a New York Times, Amazon Charts, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post bestselling author. He has written numerous crime-related stories, as well as a number of novels and non-fiction books. He has also worked in a collaboration with the author, Lee Child, on a collection of short stories. Furthermore, Olsen has written several true-crime books based on the life of noted American criminals, including convicted murderer Eli Stutzman, convicted child rapist Mary Kay Letourneau, and product-tampering killer Stella Nickell. 

As an award-winning author, Olsen has been a guest on numerous local and national television shows, including educational programs for the Discovery Channel and History Channel. He has also appeared on Good Morning America, FOX News, CNN, Anderson Cooper 360, Dateline NBC, The Today Show, Access Hollywood, and Court TV – just to name a few. Olsen has also been featured in several publications, including The New York Post, Seattle Times, USA Today, and The Los Angeles Times.

Throughout his writing career, Olsen has displayed a unique ability to create vivid narratives that provide readers with fascinating insights into the lives of different people involved in extraordinary circumstances. 

Olsen lives in Olalla, Washington with his wife, twin daughters, three chickens, and their two dogs – Milo, an obedience school dropout cocker spaniel and Suri a spoiled mini dachshund.

Gregg Olsen published his first book, Abandoned Prayers, in 1990. Abandoned Prayers is a true-crime story of murder, obsession, and Amish secrets. Eventually, Olsen decided to venture into the world of fiction – his first foray into the fiction genre started with A Wicked Snow which was published in 2007. He also ventured into the young adult genre with Envy which was published in 2011.

Gregg Olsen Awards

Gregg Olsen is the recipient of several writing and photojournalism awards, including citations of excellence from the Washington Press Association, the International Association of Business Communicators, the Public Relations Society of America, Society of Technical Communication, and the Society of Professional Journalists (Sigma Delta Chi).

His books have also received several awards. His first book, Abandoned Prayers, became a New York Times bestseller – it was number 11 for two weeks in the paperback bestsellers list. 

The Deep Dark was named Idaho Book of the Year in 2006 by the Libraries Association of Idaho. In 2007, Olsen was nominated for a Spur Award by the Western Writers of America for the best contemporary historical nonfiction book. The Deep Dark was also chosen by the Boise State University as a part of their syllabus for incoming freshmen. 

Olsen’s book, Starvation Heights was selected by the Washington Secretary of State for its annual literary program – it was honored for its contribution to Washington State history and culture. It also reached #9 on The New York Times bestseller list in the crime-and-punishment category. Furthermore, it was adapted into a stage play by Oregon playwright, Ginny Foster and was a part of the National New Play Festival in 2008. The book was also adapted into a film by Pulitzer Prize-winner Tracy Letts and producer Jason Fogelson. 

His young-adult novel, Envy, was selected for the National Book Festival of Washington. 

Victim Six and Closer Than Blood were on USA Today’s bestseller list. 

Bodies of Evidence, If Loving You is Wrong, and A Shocking True Story were on The New York Times bestseller list in e-book nonfiction. If Loving You is Wrong also made the USA Today’s bestseller list and The Wall Street Journal’s list. 

Apart from these, other novels written by Olsen have also made it into bestseller lists.
